The giant inflatable rat on Sheridan & Ardmore

"Inflatable rats, or union rats, are commonly used in the United States of America by protesting or striking trade unions against their employers or against nonunion contractors, serving as a sign of opposition and to call public attention to companies employing nonunion labor." - Wikipedia

Interesting Wikipedia quote. I've never heard of this custome (and I'm a member of 3 unions!) Do you think this rat has anything to do with a labor relations problem? Were there any signs nearby?

I used to go to Ardmore beach to swim. I'm glad that rat was not there back then.
