Don't know much about Chicago apart from the movies. Looking forward to this.

Wow! I spent two days there, 15 years ago, mostly in a hotel getting ready for Peace Corps service. But I did manage to go to the observation level up on top of the Sears Tower (they call it something else now). Have fun!

I used to live there, too! Yay, it looks great! Ooh, Meead, I'm going to enjoy this. I hope you do, too. And I hope you have a good winter coat.

And some good boots.

Thank you all. The road trip to Chicago was great. I've got a studio in Rogers Park. Evanston was too expensive. So far the best thing that I liked about Chicago is its "energy". It's sleepless. The biggest thing that I didn't like about this city is its size. It's too big and it takes a lot of time to travel from one part of it to the other. After many years living in medium sized cities, I have to get use to living in a big city, trying to allocate more time for transportation. People are also driving crazy. It reminds me our driving behavior back in Iran, lots of sharp maneuvers and "not yielding". Anyways, it's been good overall. It takes time to explore this massive place.

What a small world! During the first half of my college years I also lived in a studio in Rogers Park!!
Well, it's as close to NU as you can get without living in expensive Evanston.
Be careful driving. You can alway take the L. :)

Yes, the bus and L (or "el") trains are easy and inexpensive, safer than driving. I used to take them all the time and almost never owned a car while living in Chicago.

Rogers Park is a wonderful area. You will have time to explore--well, maybe not, once school gets started you'll be busy.

Two of my dearest friends live in Evanston. Let me know if you need local aunties and I'll put you in touch with them.

I've only been through the Chicago airport, so I am really looking forward to seeing it through your lens. Glad your started up right away, too. Enjoy exploring your new city.
